London Leadership Strategy has launched a new SEN Leaders programme, which aims to embed a strong focus on SEND into normal school improvement practice and identify schools that need support with their SEND provision.
SEN Leaders will be delivered by outstanding practitioners, including National Leaders of Education, Specialist Leaders of Education, SENCOs and other senior leaders, to take forward what we know works in SEND and to equip practitioners with the ability to review and create effective improvement plans for SEND provision.
The programme was officially launched in April at an event in Westminster, where key people involved in the development of SEN Leaders gathered together, along with charity leaders, SEN and education practitioners and government representatives.
The key themes that arose from discussions in the room included:
- How can we capture the impact of this work and what will success look like?
- How can we ensure that children and parents are placed at the heart of a school improvement programme for SEND?
- How can we ensure that the programme supports long-term sustainable improvement in SEND provision?
We received useful and insightful feedback around how the SEN Leaders programme will raise outcomes for children and young people with SEN. Our focus is on working closely with those who attended the launch, the steering group, the advisory group and the delivery team to begin the roll out of this exciting new programme. On Thursday 21st May we’ll be running our first training at Lampton School in London – so watch this space!
